GEnie ONLINE SERVICE RATES TO INCREASE
The GEnie online service has adjusted their rates for all users of the service, as of the Ist. of May. This increase will affect the over 1,000,000 users already subscribing to the service.
The old rates for non-prime time use were $5.00 per hour for all bauds with a $7.50 surcharge for 2400 baud.
As of May 1, the new rates will be as follows:
300 baud------- $5.00 per hour 1200 baud------ $6.00 per hour 2400 baud------ $10.00 per hour
For 2400 baud users, this is a decrease of $2.50 because of no surcharge being added to your bill.
Although the GEnie service does not support the Sinclair Family of computers, They do have a extensive library for other computers
QUOTE OF THE MONTH The optimist is the kind of person who believes a
Now let's see where did I put that disk? I know it's here somewhere! Look in the disk file under the S's. Flip. flip. flip... nope not there. Look in the C's flip. flip. flip... no, not there either. I hate it when I cant find anything when I need it. Oh! hi, I didn't see you standing there! Have you ever went looking for a particular disk, and just can't remember what the name is? Why is that? When you first get it, it's fresh in your mind. Later on you cant remember what the name is. Why is that??
I'm going to look in the G's, flip. flip..flip... no it's not there either. Where in the sam hill could it be? Just my luck it never got a label on it. I do that sometimes when I'm in a big hurry. Then I'll put it somewhere I know that I will remember.
Then you buy a disk cataloger thinking you will put all of your disk's in order, and have a record of them. Who has the time to go through all of those disk's? Then you find another disk cataloger that is better than the first one! It does more or it catalogs your disk's the way you want. It has color when the other one didn't. Colors colors colors all those pretty colors yea!
Jeeeezzzzz I know that disk is around here somewhere! I was holding it not to long ago! I know the wife didn't throw it away because
my den doesn't look like anybody D
has cleaned here in a million years !!!
Maybe it's over there on my other desk, rustle..rustle rustle... nope not there either. Ok think if you were a floppy disk where would you be... in the disk drive? No, to easy... got to be here some place I just feel it.
If I had my way everything would have a light and a beeper on it. When it got lost the light would start to flash. The beeper would go off so you could see it !!! Or even better all you would have to do is hold out your hand. Call for what ever is lost and it wouid magically appear right in your hand!!!
God I know that disk is around here somewhere! It's just got to bel I know it in my heart. I know... the elf in charge of lost articles has it. He won't give it up until you have suffered so much that you are about to cry. Sit right down and cry your eye's out!!! Well lets think who had it last? Maybe they didnt put it back? Let's check the wifes den rustle. move. shift. lift. NOPE NOT THERE EITHER!!! OH I JUST HATE THIS!!! 1 WANT MY DISK BACK NOW WWW WWW Wi
Well let's go back to my den. Let's see if I clean up some of the mess maybe I can find it. Let's start with the computer desk ....... well that's all clean and no disk. Well isn't this à fine mess. Ok now we'll clean the wall unit. It look's like a tornado hit ib osse ok its clean and shiny and no disk there either. Ok now the floor around the computer desk. it looks a job for an earthmover — all clean yet no disk. (Had you in suspence huh?) Ok now some
place really out of the way, the stereo...... not there. Well the only place left is the computer.
Well there it is right in (yes you guessed it) the disk drive. I cant believe it, I just can't believe it. See I told you it was here some place, I just knew it!l!!

U.S. News & World Report Magazine reports that senior citizens who have yet to make the acquantance of a personal computer now have their chance. Mention the “HACKER”
SEVERAL V. IE CUTTING BACK
It have come to my attention lately that several newsletter are cutting back their issues on a bi-monthly basis. One Magazine devoted to the Sinclair family, has failed to send out any back issues that was promised, at all. The main reason for these cutbacks are due to postage, copy cost and lack of information.
Shawn Merrick, editor of the S.L. U.G. newsletter, sums up these reasons and also states that "this provides ine with a wider deadline for article submissions and allows me to prepare the N/L when I really have the time to do it right and make it look professional". All the fine N/L's are packed with information, but, you can't see it unless you read them.
for this fine have it. for you. i we will do our best Lo get it for you —FAST|
The “HACKER” will run for its commerical readers, a 1/2 page
ad, for six months, for $50. That's only $5. per issue. Send your ad's to the: “HACKER” c/o of this N/L.
SELLING DIGITIZER FOR THE 2068
If you ever wanted to put video pictures on your 2068, it can now be done. The S.M.U.G. group are now taking orders for digitizer boards in 2 forms. S/H.
The price of the boards includes
the hardware and software, is on cassette. The bare board also includes the schematic and parts list. Both boards have an leading edge connector and is ready for a mother poard. If you want a feed through connector, like the AERCO, there is a $5.00 extra charge for this type connector. The turnaround time for these boards will be about 6-8 weeks. Please remit the amount with each order. You can send to: Sinclair Milwaukee Users Group P.O. Box 101

b The Plotter N/L reports several interesting news items in their latest issue (April '69). MAXCOMM, the new terminal emmulator /BBS software package from LABKEN, is being shipped and is now being used by many avid LARKEN users in the U.S. and Canada. But somehow a bug nibbled its way into the first few copies. But wait, this can be easily fixed by BREAKing to BASIC and LISTing line 1000. If you see the command: RANDOMIZER USR listed twice in that line, then you have a buggy copy. All you have to do is DELETE the first RAND statement and re-SAVE the BASIC portion of the
program. Now wasn't that easy?
Rod Gowen aiso reports that REMEMBER WHEN BBS has had a name change. Now it's called THE BULL PEN BBS. Everything is the same, just the name is new. In case you didn't know, or last the phone number, here it is. (503) 652-5803 6/1/N
If you got complaints about TDM, Ron Gowen requests that you don't contact RMG Enterprises. Rod mentions in the PLOTTER that "we are removing ourselves from the middle of this situation'. He suggests that you call or write TDM not RMG. Rod aiso states that if he hears anything, he will post it in the PLOTTER. Otherwise it will not be mentioned again.
Rod Humpherys reports in his latest issue of ZX-APPEAL (April'39), that Sir Clive did get married. "This woman I would like to meet. She'd have to be mighty interesting to keep Clive's attention". Rod was quoted as saying.
Remember the PC-8300, the"Chinese ZX-81"? For all of you who didn't grab one of these green and cream colored beauties, can now get one in good ole Ka- Na- Da for only $29.95 plus $3.00 S/H. from: Princess Auto Ltd.

or you can give then a call at: 1-800-665-8685
to place an order using your plastic money. Rod then dropped a bomb on his group by informing them that after two more issues, he is resigning
as editor. He also mentioned that he received a letter fron Fred Nachbaur stating that Fred enjoyed Lotus 123. Hnmmmmmn..................
Rod's issue also has a very interesting hardware project listed for a joystick interface for the ZX-81, TS1000, TS1500 and PC-8300-T. If anyone wishes a copy of the article, can contact the HACKER and one will be sent to you in your next mailed issue of this N/L. This is a Public Domain project.
Well, that's about it from the Northwest groups. Thanks goes to both the PLOTTER and ZX-APPEAL for the opportunity to pass this information on. Keep up the good work guys.
For Your
Just in case you members think that the Saturday meetings are getting boring and the weather is getting too nice, you sure missed a lip- smacking, finger licking, good ole fashion Bar -B-Q Y complete with all FJ the trimmings. |
The Bar-B-Q was meaty pork ribs and homemade potato salad, along with John Sumpolic's secert recipe of baked beans. And to top it all off, a gallon of Pink Lemonade. Now if that can't get the members to
GGG cca
show up at these meets, WHAT CAN?
With the execption of Ralph Hammer (who was out camping with the scouts), the only members that did show were Chris Fenn and John Sumpolic. With only the three of at this get-together, we managed to devour the 12 Ibs. of ribs, 4 Ibs. of potato salad, 2 1bs. of baked beans and 1 gal. of lemonade.
If anyone has any ideas on what you want to do at the Saturday events, show up or send me suggestions so we can have more to explore and talk about LETS GET ROLLING AGAIN.....
Next month you can really see a computer at work. Dawn's going to show off her new 366-AT with a 60meg hard-drive (or Chris showing Dawn how to run this complex machine). We found out that any type of game played on this computer is much too fast
Well, thats about it for this column. So get off the couch and support your group......Show up at the next meeting on May 20th.
